Staying safer if you’re using drugs or alcohol
Not everyone is ready or able to stop straight away. Harm reduction is about helping people reduce risks, stay safer and access practical support without judgement.
Practical support, not pressure
Horizon can help you understand risks, plan safer choices, and access support that could make a real difference. You can speak to us even if you are still using drugs or alcohol.
Access sterile equipment and safer injecting advice
Needle and syringe exchange helps reduce the risks linked to injecting drug use. You can access sterile equipment, advice and support around safer use, as well as information about returning used equipment safely.
Naloxone can help reverse an opioid overdose
Horizon can provide naloxone kits and training so people know how to respond if someone is experiencing an opioid overdose. Having naloxone nearby can save lives.
Small steps can help reduce risk
We can talk through safer use advice in a practical and non-judgemental way, including how to reduce risk, avoid mixing substances where possible, and think about safer choices.
Know the risks and what to do in an emergency
We can help you understand overdose risks, warning signs and what to do if someone becomes unresponsive, struggles to breathe, or needs urgent medical help.
Keeping people and communities safer
Safe return of used equipment helps protect you, others and the wider community. Horizon can advise you on how to return equipment safely and responsibly.
Support for your wider health and wellbeing
Harm reduction support can also include conversations around physical health, wellbeing, sexual health, blood-borne viruses, and other support that may be useful.
Support that moves at your pace
Everyone’s situation is different. We’ll listen, talk through your options and help you build a plan that feels realistic for you.
Start in the way that feels easiest
You can contact Horizon by phone, complete a referral form online, or visit one of our Blackpool hubs. You do not need to know exactly what help you need before getting in touch.
