In preparation for Hepatitis Awareness Week, Horizon is ramping up testing across Blackpool and hosting events for a week to raise awareness and bust myths around Hepatitis C.
Funded by Blackpool Council, Horizon offers alcohol, drugs and sexual health support for people across Blackpool. Working with Hepatitis C Trust, Renaissance UK and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, testing and events to raise awareness around the myths of Hepatitis C.
Starting Monday 17th July, ramped up testing will take place across Blackpool and will be available to any Blackpool resident for free. Events will also be a part of the awareness campaign to develop people’s knowledge around how Hepatitis C can spread and that 97% of people who receive treatment make a full recovery.
Tom High, Horizon Service Manager; ‘With Blackpool having the highest prevalence in the UK for Hepatitis C, we wanted to take action and boost testing and awareness ahead of the national Hepatitis Awareness week.
There are many myths around Hepatitis C and we want to provide support and education to residents of Blackpool. Our testing and events are free and open to anyone in Blackpool. Please free to come down and say hello to us.’
Testing station will be at Horizon lighthouse, 17th – 22nd July, 10-3pm, 102 Dickson Road, Blackpool, FY1 2BU.
There will also be a testing station at Winston House, 17th -22nd July, 10-3pm, Blackpool, FY1 3TG and a Renaissance Testing Bus in Blackpool Town Centre, outside Winter Gardens on Friday 21st from 10-3pm.
